Mrs. Alexis Small

I have lived in the Northland for most of my life. I graduated from Park Hill High School and then completed my undergraduate degree in History and Education from William Jewell College. I played softball at William Jewell and was involved in campus life. After graduation, I worked at WJC as an Admission Counselor and Event Coordinator before beginning my teaching career. I coached and taught at Lathrop High School for 4 years.  Since coming to Smithville High School in 2011, my husband (Ryan) and I have had two children (Sullivan and Perry Belle) and we now live in Smithville. We enjoy playing outside, reading and traveling. I love to try new things in the kitchen and cook from scratch nearly every night.

I have a Master's Degree in Administration from the University of Missouri - Columbia.  I also have 32 hours of graduate credit toward my Master's Degree in American History from UMKC.

I teach AP World and AP US History. I am passionate about history and love learning. I am an avid reader and love to learn new things in history. This summer I received a grant to travel to Normandy and learn more about World War II.

This year I hope that my students will develop a passion for history, will learn historical thinking skills and will be successful on the AP exam.  Personally, I am really focusing on contextualization and helping students connect historical events with the world today.
