Mr. Alexander Houck
I have been a full time teacher since 2004. I started my career in California. Although my favorite units are usually about Shakespeare, I look forward to instilling a passion for reading and superior skills of writing and analysis that students can use in their future endeavors.
I received BA degrees in English Literature and Theatre Arts from Santa Clara University in 2002. I completed my teacher training at Cal Poly San Luis Obispo while working as a substitute teacher and theatre technician. My most recent degree is a Masters in Education Administration from Cal State San Marcos. At first I thought that I just wanted to help people as a teacher. I soon realized that my true passion is helping students turn their wishes and dreams for their future into reality.
When not at Smithville High School I enjoy riding on bike trails and walking my dog, Grady. My wife and her dog, Franklin, will often join us on those walks. I enjoy watching my wife play the viola for the Kansas City Symphony. Over the past few years I have become an avid fan of Formula 1 racing. My favorite driver is Sebastian Vettel, who drives for Ferrari.
This year I will be teaching:
Honors ELA II
ELA III (2 sections)
ELA IV (2 sections
AP English Literature & Composition
ACT Prep (online)
My warrior time will be with 11th grade students and I am WARRIOR STRONG and WE ARE BETTER TOGETHER!
This year I am looking forward to building a strong foundation of relationships with my ELA Department colleagues to help all students in all classes.
