Mrs. Petra Williams

I have been a Smithville High School Science Teacher since 2007 - teaching Physical Science, Forensic Science, Oceanography, and Leadership. I have a background in engineering, receiving a BS in Industrial and Management Engineering from the University of Iowa in 1989.  I  worked for Hallmark Cards, Inc. as a project engineer after graduating college for close to 13 years and as a project consultant for Formation Strategies.   I also was the owner of  All About Books, and Independent Bookstore in Smithville for 3 years.  In 2006 I began pursuing my Masters Degree in Teaching from the University of Central Missouri - completing this effort in 2008.  This summer, I completed course work through Purdue University, and now have my Project Management Certificate.  I have also been the  Student Council Advisor since 2009 and am the lead teacher for Senior Warrior Time.

I have been married to my husband Dan, who is a Battalion Chief in North Kansas City for 25 years; have two sons, Troy, a graduate of William Jewell College and Trent a student at Drury University and college soccer player,  and a daughter Maren who is a senior at SHS - she's a 4-year member of the Dazzlers and active in Student Council and other clubs.  I enjoy watching my sons play soccer and my daughter dance- and spend my free time reading, walking my dog, Nutmeg, and riding my bike.

This year my focus in the classroom is helping students develop their collaboration skills my working in teams to solve challenges. I have high expectations for students and always look forward to pushing them to be their best - however that might look for them.

I will be a 12th grade Warrior Time teacher and I am Building Strong.

This year I'm excited about making positive changes in our school culture, school spirit, and school pride.

Every Student, Every Day, No Matter What!
