My name is Debbie Wilmes. I grew up in St. Joseph, Mo. and graduated from Central High School. I have one daughter Elizabeth, one beautiful granddaughter Sawyer and son-in-law Sam. I enjoy spending time with family especially Sawyer and friends. I like doing yard work and planting flowers. I go to auctions and love antiques.
I am starting my 24th year here in the Smithville district. I have a Bachelor of Science in nursing graduating from St. Luke's School of Nursing and Avila University. I decided to go into nursing my high school senior year after working as a candy stripper at the local hospital. After graduation, I worked at St. Luke's Hospital on the Plaza for 3 years. I then worked as a hematology/oncology nurse for 17 years for a wonderful physician. Such a rewarding experience.
I serve as Coordinator of the Health Services program, developing guidelines for school district policies, goals and objectives. I implement and monitor student compliance with state immuniztion laws. I identify health and safety concerns in the school enviroment and promote a nurturing school environment. Our nursing mission is to assist students to achieve academically and socially in the school setting by promoting health for all students here at SHS.
I am a nurse, liaison, resource person and a role model and I am BUILDING STRONG.
