Mrs. Amanda McCluskey

I moved to Smithville in 2015 with my husband and first son. From there we have settled in to make Smithville our home with the addition of our youngest son and dog, Harold. The family and I enjoy creating lasting memories with the amount of activities and fun we find in our community and surrounding Kansas City Metro area.  Our oldest is now starting school this year and we are excited to see all of our new adventures.

My roots in education brought me to education.  My grandmothers, mother, and aunt were all outstanding teachers.  I aspired to follow in their footsteps and touch lives. I attended undergraduate school at Missouri Southern State University in Joplin.  There I studied special education and elementary education.  I also was a thrower for four years on the Lady Lions Track and Field Team and served as a student athlete coach during my fifth year.  I concluded my studies with an abroad teaching adventure in Southampton, England working in a high needs key stage 1 school, Springwell. I then furthered my studies to graduate school at the University of Missouri in Educational Leadership and Policy Analysis. Graduating both with honors.

From there I have had the privelage to teach Special Education for the last four years at Smithville High School.  I will be starting my second year teaching the functional living classes and life skills at SHS though.  I enjoy watching our students' excitment to learn grow throughout the year.  I hope to help our students get connected to our school and community through their learning and work experiences. In our first year we have partnered with our young business leaders in the building and now are starting to connect to local businesses for the coming year.  We hope to see you out in our community.  I serve as a PLC leader for our Special Education department.  I also get the joy of coaching 7th grade girls basketball in the late fall.  I am fortunate to be a part of one of the best schools in the area.

I will be an 11th grade warrior time teacher and I am WARRIOR STRONG and WE ARE BETTER TOGETHER!
