Mrs. Amanda McCluskey

I moved to Smithville in 2015 with my husband and first son. From there we have settled in to make Smithville our home with the addition of our youngest son and now our new fury friend, Harold. The family and I enjoy creating lasting memories with the amount of activities and fun we find in our community and surround Kansas City Metro area.  My husband and I have always looked into the area because of its proximity to Kansas City, the small community, and close family friends in the area.  When the opportunity came to teach here we jumped on the opportunity.

My heavy roots in education brought me to education.  My grandmothers, mother, and aunt were all outstanding teachers.  I aspired to follow in their footsteps and touch lives. I attended undergraduate school at Missouri Southern State University in Joplin.  There I studied special education and elementary education.  I also was a thrower for four years on the Lady Lions Track and Field Team and served as a student athlete coach during my fifth year.  I concluded my studies with an abroad teaching adventure in Southampton, England working in a high needs key stage 1 school, Springwell. I then furthered my studies to graduate school at the University of Missouri in Educational Leadership and Policy Analysis. Graduating both with honors.

From there I have had the privelage to teach Special Education for the last three years at Smithville High School.  I will be starting my first year teaching the functional living classes and life skills at SHS though.  I enjoy watching our students' excitment to learn grow throughout the year.  I hope to help our students get connected to our school and community through their learning and work experiences. I serve as a PLC leader for our Special Education department.  I also get the joy of coaching 7th grade girls basketball in the fall.  I have also enjoyed working with the various committees in our building and district to promote growth and improvement to make Smithville School District be one of the best.

I will be an 11th grade Warrior Time teacher and I am BUILDING STRONG!
