Mr. Samuel Hester
This is my second year teaching in the Smithville School District, and I am very excited to be here. I currently live in the North Gladstone area with my wife, who I just married in November of 2017, and with our dog and two cats. I also have a fish and two lizards that will be with me in the classroom. We love nature, being outdoors, and going on trips to amazing places. We spend most of our time hiking, biking, at crossfit, or when not feeling active - reading or watching way too much TV.
I am a huge science and sports nerd. I enjoy reading or watching anything about science fact, science fiction, historical fiction, or just plain fantasy. I also am very passionate about Football (Minnesota Vikings), Baseball (St. Louis Cardinals), and Hockey (St. Louis Blues). I grew up in St. Louis, Missouri where I played Football, Hockey, and Track & Field all four years of high school.
This will be my 5th year of teaching overall, and I am very excited to bring what I have learned to Smithville High School, and learn so much more from the wonderful staff and students here. I recieved my bachelor's degree from the University of Missouri - Columbia in 2014 in Biology, and my master's degree in 2015 in Science Education. I am very passionate about Mizzou sports as well! While in Columbia, I also worked for 3 years in a virology lab studying HIV and other retroviruses, as well as one semester of insectology studying Treehoppers from the Amazon, which were some of the most enriching experiences of my life.
Classes I have taught in the past include General Biology, Anatomy & Physiology, Forensic Science, General and Honors Chemistry, Dual Credit Chemistry, and AP Chemistry. I am excited to build upon PLTW Principles of Biomedical Science to that list this year.
My schedule this year will include:
-PLTW Principles of Biomedical Science (PBS)
-PLTW Human Body Systems (HBS)
I am excited to bring my skills and experiences to help students learn more and realize their career goals in the field of healthcare, as well as medical and life sciences!
I will be a 10th grade warrior time teacher and I am WARRIOR STRONG and WE ARE BETTER TOGETHER!
