Mrs. Haley Howard
¡Hola hola! My name is Haley Howard and I teach Spanish here at Smithville High!
I am actually a Southern gal; born and raised in Arkansas for the majority of my life! I had an amazing Spanish teacher in high school who helped me fall in love with the language and culture. I attended the University of Arkansas and earned my Bachelor of Arts in Spanish as well as my Master of Arts in Teaching. I moved about 4 hours north to teach in the Saint Joseph School District for my first two years as an educator. I had heard about the impressive reputation of Smithville Schools and joined the Warrior team in 2020. I am new to the area, but I already feel welcomed and appreciated by my colleagues and community!
In my free time, I enjoy spending time with family and friends, watching my favorite TV shows with my husband, being outdoors, and playing board games. I love to travel as often as possible, whether it be inside or outside the U.S. My dream vacation, at the moment, is to travel to Costa Rica with my husband and see sloths in the wild!
I became a Spanish teacher because I have seen the value in learning this language since adolescence, and I want to share those benefits with other young people. Speaking Spanish has opened so many doors for me throughout my life, so I am eager to see the opportunities it brings my students. I also love this quote by Charlemagne because I think it truly sums up my feelings on being bilingual.
"To have another language is to possess a second soul."
I am eager to begin my teaching career here at Smithville and make the most of an uncertain year! I will be a 12th grade Warrior Time teacher this year. I am WARRIOR STRONG and we are BETTER TOGETHER!
