Mr. Marshall
Greetings,
My name is Bret Marshall and I am a social studies teacher and wrestling coach at Smithville High School. I earned my bachelor and master's degrees from the University of Central Missouri where I was also a member of the varsity wrestling program. I started my teaching career near the Lake of the Ozarks where I was named "Teacher of the Year" and "Educator of the Year" in 2014 in the Eldon R-1 School District. In Eldon, I also started a junior high and varsity wrestling program along with chartering a USA wrestling youth wrestling club called the "Eldon Takedown Team". In 2016, I moved to the largest urban pupulated area of the world when my wife and I moved to Shanghai, China to work at Shanghai High School. Shanghai High School is the number 1 ranked school in mainland China and I earned the "Teacher of the Year" award in 2018. At Shanghai High School I taught students from around 60 countries which has given me a differnet perspective on diversity, culture and language. After working in mainland China for 3 years my wife and I returend to America to have a baby and obtain our master's degrees. I graduated from UCM with a 4.0 and my wife and I had a beautiful daughter named Nora. Throughout my career I had applied to work at Smithville high school twice but was finally able to secure a job at my dream school on my third attempt in 2020 after teaching middle school in my home town, Liberty, for the two years. At Liberty I was the NWCA Asst. Coach of the Year in 2019 and 2020 for Class 4 Wrestling and District 4 Wrestling.
I can be easily reached through my professional email (marshalb@smithville.k12.mo.us).
