Dear Families,
I don't know about you, but I am ready for spring!! It is hard to keep a routine when winter interrupts our schedules so much. BUT - we are making the most of our time. Students just finished all of their winter benchmark testing. Copies of their progress will go home with grade cards at the end of 3rd quarter. Students have been setting goals and working hard to make gains. We are very pleased with their progress! Keep reading and practicing at home!
We are kicking of next with with a Kindness Campaign. Mrs. Stevens Kindness Leadership group is hosting a Kindness Station in the Library, Tuesday, February 12th, 8:30-9:00 am. Everyone is invited to write a letter to a friend, family member, or someone they care about to brighten their day.
Our PTO sponsored Valentine party will take place on February 14th in the gym. You can sign up to help at this link
Party times are as follows:
9:00-10:05 - 2nd/3rd grades
10:15-11:20 - 4th/5th grades
12:50-1:50 - 6th grade
2:00-3:00 - Kindergarten/1st grade
Early childhood will have celebrations with both AM & PM classes. Lunch and recess times are at regularly scheduled times.
Since the weather has been unpredictable and the date continues to change, we have decided to celebrate the 100th Day of School on Monday, February 18th (rather than the 14th.) Individual teachers will send information out if they choose to celebrate in a special way.

We are very excited about our upcoming Book Fair and FamilyNight the last week of February. We hope you all come out and have some fun with the whole family! Chris Cakes will be here with all you can eat pancakes and sausage for $5 a person. There will be many interactive stations and activities throughout the school for you to complete
This year's Spring fundraiser is the Horizon Fun Run! It's a two-week program that kicks off with a Pep Rally on Tuesday, March 5th.  K-2 will meet in the gym at 1:45 p.m. while 3-6th will meet at 2:30 p.m. Families will then gather pledges for every lap your student runs (30-35 laps), and we'll celebrate at the Fun Run on Thursday, March 14th.
Students will also experience an amazing character theme, MINDSPARK MYSTERY LAB which combines S.T.E.A.M skills (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Math) with character-building. While they're teaming up with the MindSpark Kids to solve mysteries, our students will learn five 21st-century character traits that will help strengthen themselves and our world.
Our big goal of raising is $15,000 for technology, classroom supplies, and flexible seating! So please help our school by reaching out to sponsors. Also, all families are invited to come out and cheer on your student at the Fun Run! Thank you for your support!
Stay warm and be safe!

Library Happenings - Mrs. Sumerall
Congratulations to Brock Parman for winning an Ozobot during our 2nd Quarter Assembly! We will hold drawings during our 3rd Quarter and 4th Quarter Assemblies, so make sure your child is reading so their name can be entered in the contest. How are students entered in the drawing? K-2 students need to complete their Reading Challenge forms, and students in grades 3-6 need to meet the reading goals set by their classroom teachers.
We are beginning to get fired up for our Book Fair! The dates of the fair are February 25th-March 1st. We will be open Monday-Thursday from 8:30a.m.-7:30p.m. and Friday from 8:30 a.m.-4:30p.m.
Parents, I need your help for this to be a success. We need people to run cash registers, assist students with locating books, straightening shelves, etc. If you are interested in volunteering, please visit this link to sign up: Book Fair Volunteer Link

Music - Mrs. Phipps
Both 5th & 6th grade students have started ukulele work in music class!  They are having a lot of fun but have learned that your fingers get sore!  If your child would like to purchase their own ukulele and bring it to music class, please feel free to do so, but it is not an expectation of mine for students to have their own.  I have a set of 20 in my classroom for ukulele work.  6th grade will have a ukulele recital in May.  Details will come out later.

K & 1st grade will have a concert in April.  It'll be a Spring performance along with their art show.  Details will be coming out next week so please be on the lookout for the music program letter.

3rd & 4th grade are playing recorders and learning a lot!  Hopefully they'll be able to play you a tune soon.

Lastly, 2nd grade has been working on proper music writing as well as playing lots of instruments.  If you ever have any questions, please don't hesitate to ask!
PE - Mr. Barker
Just a reminder that students need to bring tennis shoes on P.E. days to participate in everything. Students have been missing out on some activities like climbing the rock wall, because they do not have the proper shoes. Thanks for your help!
