Smithville School District Named Certified Healthy KC Organization
Smithville School District was recently named a Certified Healthy KC Organization. Healthy KC is an initiative that was launched by the Greater Kansas City Chamber of Commerce and Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Kansas City in the spring of 2015.
The district was evaluated on four ‘pillars’ of health: nutrition, physical activity, tobacco cessation, and work/life integration. The district received Silver certification based on its level of achievement across the four pillars.
“We are excited and honored in our recognition as a Certified Healthy KC Organization,” stated Kim Davis, Coordinator of Benefits and Wellness. “Smithville School District has a tradition of service and that extends beyond our students to our staff. We value our employees and work hard to provide a comprehensive health enhancement program. We strive to be creative in our approach and look for ways to embed healthy practices into our culture. Employees may participate in on-site exercise classes, lunch-n-learns, financial seminars, fitness/nutrition challenges, receive a no cost flu shot and health screening, work directly with a health coach and more. Our goal is to encourage and assist our employees and their families with a variety of options to help address their health needs/wants,” added Davis.
Smithville School District compares well to others in the Kansas City area and will use this measure as an opportunity to continue to find ways to improve.
