Mayhugh Selected to Lead Softball Team

Kaily Mayhugh has been selected to lead the softball team at Smithville High School (SHS). Mayhugh currently serves as an English language arts teacher at Smithville High School.


Coach Mayhugh has been part of the softball program at SHS for years. She was All-Conference, All-District, and All-Region pitcher for the Warriors from 2008-2010 and All-State 2nd Team in 2010, a volunteer coach from 2014-2018, and most recently served as an assistant under legendary Coach Steve Tingler. Mayhugh holds several records in the Warrior’s program including, Season Wins (20), Career Wins (56), Career Strikeouts (473), and Season ERA (0.54). Prior to her time teaching in Smithville, Mayhugh was an elementary teacher in the North Kansas City School District.


“We are excited to name Kaily Mayhugh as the next head coach of our Lady Warrior Softball Program.  Kaily has been involved in our softball program at all levels over the past decade and will use this experience to continue our program’s success for decades to come,” said Darren Shaffer, Assistant Principal for Athletics and Activities.


“I have some pretty big shoes to fill. Coach Tingler has built the Warriors Softball Program up to the high caliber program it is today. I am honored to have been a part of that and to be able to come back to my home town and coach. We have some very talented young ladies and I cannot wait to see what we accomplish in the upcoming season,” said Coach Mayhugh, Head Softball Coach.


Mayhugh earned a Bachelor of Science in Education from Park University where she also starred as a pitcher on the Park University softball team. Mayhugh received the following honors:

  • Ranked 2nd in Park Softball history for her ERA of 1.41 in 2013
  • Ranked 7th in Park Softball history for her Total Season Strikeouts of 105 in 2012
  • Career ERA of 2.34
  • 400 career IP,
  • 46-18 career record
  • 297 career strikeouts
  • 14 career shutouts
  • 4 career no-hitters
  • 3 perfect games in 2014
  • Honorable Mention All-Conference 2012 and 2013
  • AMC Pitcher of the Week in 2014.


Mayhugh resides in Smithville with her husband, Jake and their German Shepherd, Hazel .
