Harwood Named Director of Student Services
HARWOOD NAMED DIRECTOR OF STUDENT SERVICES
Denise Harwood, current principal of Horizon Elementary School, will serve as the Director of Student Services starting July 1.
The district office will restructure following the retirement of Assistant Superintendent for Support Services, Wayne Krueger. His position will be replaced with a Director of Student Services. “Supporting our students and staff in the area of student services was a primary goal in our restructuring effort. This is a growing need in every school district and this structure allows us to address that need with no additional positions,” said Superintendent Dr. Todd Schuetz.
“Mrs. Harwood has a history of strong advocacy for students and staff,” said Schuetz. “Her passion and kind heart will be a great addition to our central office administration,” added Schuetz.
“Smithville is truly a wonderful place, and I look forward to serving our Warrior family in a new capacity as the Director of Student Services. I am excited for the opportunity to partner with students, staff, parents and our community as we work to grow our systems of support and continue to help our students reach their full potential,” said Denise Harwood.
Harwood has been principal of Horizon Elementary for the past six years. Prior to serving in her current role of principal, Harwood served as the assistant principal of Maple Elementary School and Horizon Elementary School beginning in 2012. She came to Smithville with six years of experience as an elementary principal and one as an elementary assistant principal in the Eldon School District, Eldon, Missouri. Prior to her tenure as a principal, Harwood taught for eight years.
Harwood received her bachelor’s degree from Lincoln University, a master's degree from William Woods University, and educational specialist in leadership and policy analysis from the University of Missouri. She resides in Smithville along with her husband, Eddie, and their two daughters, Shae and Corinne.
