Martin Selected to Lead Swim Teams

Kyle Martin has been selected to lead the boys and girls swim teams at Smithville High School (SHS).

Coach Martin is the Assistant Head Coach of Tsunami Swim Team Kansas City. In this role he focuses on teaching basic swimming principles and competitive fundamentals to young men and women, instilling techniques leading to personal best times and character development.

A 2013 graduate of Liberty North High School, he was an all-state swimmer, earned multiple conference championships and still holds school records there. He swam collegiately at Drury University (Springfield) where he was a member of the D-II 2013 National Championship team. The Panthers were national runners-up twice during his time at Drury.

“We are excited to have Coach Martin become a part of Warrior Nation and lead our swim programs.  Kyle is an accomplished competitor and has had the chance to coach on the club circuit as well,” said Darren Shaffer, Assistant Principal for Athletics and Activities.

“I look forward to helping Smithville’s student athletes achieve their goals and aspirations in the water while encouraging their growth well beyond the pool deck, too” said Coach Martin, Head Swim Coach.

Martin earned a Bachelor of Science in Computer Science with a minor in mathematics from Drury University.  During his time at Drury, Martin was a four-time GLVC Conference Champion and was an All-Conference standout in the mile, 1,000 and 500 yard events.

Martin is an Eagle Scout and is USA Swim Certified.
