A Message from Dr. Todd Schuetz, Smithville School District Superintendent
Like many of you, I remain heartbroken and angered regarding the recent examples of racial injustice and violence in our country. Sadly, the deaths of George Floyd, Ahmaud Arbery, and Breonna Taylor are only three examples of the systemic racism that remains pervasive in our society today.
I stand with our students, families and staff against any and all forms of racial injustice. The Smithville Board of Education stands with our students, families and staff against any and all forms of racial injustice. Ending racism should not be a debate, but it does require us to look inward, listen and ultimately make the changes necessary through action and not only words. This is my challenge to our school district and collective community.
It is important that our district review closely the policies and procedures currently in place to ensure our students, teachers and staff learn, share and work in an environment free of bigotry towards all races, communities and cultures including the LGBTQ community.
We are proud of the efforts our educators have made in creating a leading learning environment for allstudents, yet we recognize there is still important work to be done. We can do this work together.
