November 16, 2018

What a great week to be a Warrior!  We have a lot of wonderful things going on. Our students presented to our Board of Education Wednesday evening and I am always amazed at how many activities they are involved in during the week.  We truly have some awesome students!! I want to thank you, parents for encouraging students to take risks, challenge themselves with difficult courses and celebrate their success. Just a reminder next week that we will only have school Monday and Tuesday.  We will have a long four day week to rest and relax with family while we celebrate Thanksgiving. We will not be sending out quicknews next week due to the short week. I will also not be available on Monday so we will reconvene Monday’s Matter sessions on November 26th at 7:10 in the library. Please remember we have our food drive going through next Tuesday so send in those nonperishable items for families in need.

On another note, I wanted to share some details about something in the works.  As I have mentioned numerous times, our kids are struggling with anxiety and depression.  Sometimes students end up moving toward “numbing” their uncomfortableness through the use of drugs and various ways that are not healthy.  I am currently part of a committee that is exploring Random drug testing for students. In order to get a pulse on where we are on this topic we’d like to give you as parents an opportunity to share your thoughts on this.  Please click on the following https://goo.gl/forms/AGGXsCj9zUNDXn8y1  to answer ONE question and provide comments (if necessary) on this topic.  We are NOT moving toward this process at this time. This committee is simply investigating options for something such as this.

Lastly…Welcome to the second official week of Quarter II, so let’s raise the bar even higher for your student…because that is what Warriors do…continuing to grow!

Your Proud Principal,
Dr. Platt

These are quality bags suitable in size and strength for our trash needs and yard work. These bags are twice as thick as Hefty’s bags and people love them!! There are three different sizes of bags available, but they all cost the same…..only $10.00 per roll.
White – 15 gallon (tall kitchen) 65 bags per roll
Yellow – 39 gallon 25 bags per roll
Blue – 55 gallon (super size) 16 bags per roll
We are taking orders from November 14th through November 30th. Money should be collected when the order is taken. Checks can be made payable to Smithville High School. Order forms and money should be given to Mr. Holt by November 30th.
Let’s all get behind this effort. Buy your bag supply from a Junior class respresentative and offer them to relatives, friends, and neighbors. All profits from this sale will go toward our Junior/Senior prom expenses for this year.

 Notes from the Nurse:

Students who do not feel well during the day must see the nurse before leaving school or they will be considered truant.   We have a lot of students texting parents for permission to go home when they don't feel good, they must see the nurse first. The nurse will then call the parents. We appreciate your help with this process.
