Hello Warriors! I want to officially welcome everyone back and wish you all a happy new year! I hope you had a wonderful holiday break and spent time resting and relaxing. As we begin another week, please take some time with your teen and begin the year with some conversations around goal setting. As we near the end of our first semester it is important to reflect on ways to help them FinishSTRONG. Our semester ends on January 18th which will be an early dismissal. Finals week starts on January 11th. We are off January 21st and will start back on Tuesday, January 22 which is a “zero day.” On that day students will visit all 8 blocks for their new schedules and get to know a new routine. Please reach out to teachers if you have questions regarding grades as we near the end of first semester.

A few weeks ago a survey was sent out regarding random drug testing. This was to provide feedback to a committee currently working with Tri-county on drug free community issues and helping us move forward in an effort to support teens in various ways. An article was published in the Courier Tribune titled Random drug testing exploration moves forward with more information. You can also attend the next meeting at Central Office on January 15, 2019 @ 5:30 pm. Here the link to the Courier Tribune.

As mentioned in previous newsletters I will begin providing Tuesday Tips on our Facebook page as well as Twitter. The Monday’s Matter lesson will be provided each week for you to view with your teen along with the questions. My hope is that parents begin to understand the amount of stress our teenagers are dealing with and ways to help them stay on the right path and make good choices. This week is the perfect time to discuss habits specifically around time management. The lesson this week for Monday’s Matter is by Demir Gjokaj who founded Lifehack Bootcamp where he and his wife teach people how to arrange their daily todo list in an optimal way.

Free Sports Physicals, February 5th
We are pleased to announce that Saint Luke’s Hospital will once again be offering physicals at NO CHARGE to all current and prospective athletes grades 9-11. The staff at Smithville School District is very appreciative of this and has allotted time on Tuesday, February 5th during the school day. Students will be asked to sign up with Mrs. Nitsche with signed parent consent form no later than January 23rd.

Click here for the parent consent form.

The Missouri State High School Activities Association states that any physical that is obtained after February 1st is good for the remainder of the school year as well as through the following year. Therefore the physical your athlete receives on this day will be good through the end of the 2019 school year and the entire 2019-2020 school year!
The district will provide transportation to and from the hospital campus to ensure safety of your student athlete. School personnel will also be on site to ensure a smooth transition to and from as well as monitoring safety of your athletes.

All student athletes participating in physical day must have an updated health history form on his/her Privit account. You can update your account by logging into https://smithvillewarriors-mo.e-ppe.com.

If your child does not have a Privit account please visit https://www.smithvilleschooldistrict.net/domain/548 for directions on starting an account in order for your child to participate.
Once your student athlete receives his/her physical we will upload it into their Privit account for you. Should you have any questions please do not hesitate to contact any of the following individuals at the respective emails listed below.

Attention Seniors!

Seniors have been asked to start bringing in both a baby picture and a senior photo, to be shown in the presentation. Ms.Hanrion would prefer a baby photo and senior photo taken with their phones and sent to Ms. Hanrion because there were some issues with photos that were scanned last year. But if you would prefer to bring in a photo to have it scanned that would be great too!

If you have any questions please feel free to reach out to Ms. Hanrion at Hanrionl@Smithville.k12.mo.us

Attention Students!

Officer Buchheit has been patrolling the parking lots and noticed a lot of students are not displaying their parking pass. This is a must! Please make sure you are always displaying your parking pass. There will be a $5.00 fee assessed to any car not properly displaying their parking pass.
