ABOUT OUR DEPARTMENT

QUEST (Quality Use of Exceptional Students’ Time)

The Smithville R-II School District is dedicated to meeting the individual needs of all students.  This includes providing opportunities for students who exhibit exceptional cognitive and affective mental capacities.  Because these students possess extraordinary abilities to think creatively and critically, the school district recognizes the individual needs of the academically gifted is best met by providing a differentiated learning environment.  Such an environment will allow gifted students regular opportunities to interact with, and be stimulated by, their intellectual peers without being isolated from the regular school program.

The Smithville R-II QUEST program is based upon continued commitment to foster the development of the unique potential of each student by providing acceleration and academic challenge.

Screening Statement

In the Smithville School District, all students are screened for inclusion in the gifted program via cognitive skills and/or academic achievement tests in grades K, 2, 4 and 6.  New students to the district may be screened in off-years if there is evidence to support it.
