Parents' Right to Know Staff Qualifications

In accordance with the Every Student Succeeds Act of 2015 (Public Law 114-95) and the requirements of Section 1111 of Title I, all parents of students in schools receiving Title I.A funds, may request information about the professional qualifications of the instructional staff working with their children. Maple Elementary receives Title I funding.

Upon your request, our district is required to provide to you in a timely manner, the following:

  • Whether the teacher has met state certification and licensing criteria for the grade levels and subject areas in which the teacher is providing instruction;

  • Whether the teacher is teaching under emergency or other provisional status through which state qualification or licensing criteria have been waived;

  • Whether the teacher is teaching in the field of discipline of the certification of the teacher; and,

  • Whether your child is provided services by paraprofessionals and, if so, their qualifications.

In addition to the information that parents may request, a school that receives Title I.A. funds must provide to each individual parent:

  • Information on the level of achievement and academic growth of their student, if applicable and available, on each of the state academic assessments required under Title I.A; and,

  • Timely notice that their student has been assigned, or has been taught, for four or more consecutive weeks by a teacher who has not met applicable state certification or licensure requirements at the grade level and subject area in which the teacher has been assigned.

At this time, the Smithville School District employees are professionally qualified as a classroom teacher, Title I reading teacher or paraprofessional.
