SHS Cadet Teachers have spent the past month working on a client-connected project for the Smithville School District. Cadet teachers were tasked with creating lessons and teaching sessions to K-1st, 2nd-3rd, and 4th-6th graders at each elementary building. On Monday, they hosted their Holidays Around the World Event. Great work Cadet Teachers!

2022 Holiday Concerts
Please welcome Dr. Mark Maus to our District today! He is one of the four finalists for superintendent in the Smithville School District. He is currently the Executive Director of 7-12 Academics in the North Kansas City School District. He has held this position for four years and has successfully led the district in the Real World Learning initiative. Prior to that he was the Executive Director of Human Resources for three years. Mark grew up in Smithville and is a Smithville High School graduate. He began his teaching career as an Algebra 1 teacher at Oak Park High School in North Kansas City for seven years. He then served as a high school principal for six years, with the last three of those years as the principal at Oak Park High School. Dr. Maus received his Bachelors' Degree from Northwest State University, where he also received his Masters' Degree. He received both his Specialists' and Doctorate degrees from UMKC. Dr. Maus will be meeting with a variety of focus groups throughout the day today and touring our district and community. He will complete his day in Smithville with an interview with the Board of Education this evening. The public is invited to meet Dr. Maus at 5:00 p.m. at the Smithville High School Performing Arts Center.

Please welcome Craig Marshall to our District today! He is one of the four finalists for superintendent in the Smithville School District. He is currently the superintendent in Burlington, KS, where he has successfully led the district for the last seven years. Craig is a native of Pittsburg, KS. He began his teaching career in Central Kansas, where he taught for 11 years as an elementary, middle, and high school physical education teacher. He was an elementary principal for 15 years, with 10 of those years in McPherson, KS. Mr. Marshall received his Bachelors' Degree from Pittsburg State University. He received his Masters' Degree from Fort Hays State University. He received his credentials for District Leadership from Fort Hays State University as well. Mr. Marshall will be meeting with a variety of focus groups throughout the day today and touring our district and community. He will complete his day in Smithville with an interview with the Board of Education this evening. The public is invited to meet Mr. Marshall at 5:00 p.m. at the Smithville High School Performing Arts Center.

Please welcome Denise Harwood to our district today! She is one of the four finalists for superintendent in the Smithville School District. She is currently the interim superintendent in Smithville, MO. Denise is a native of Central Missouri where she began her teaching career as a 6th, 7th and 8th grade teacher during her six years of teaching. Most of her teaching experience was in Eldon, Mo, where she was able to advance to the elementary building principal's position, which she held for six years. Denise then moved to Smithville, first as an assistant principal and then to a building principal position. She was an elementary principal in Smithville for six years before advancing to a District leadership position. She has successfully served the District as the Director of Student Services for the last two years, prior to being named interim superintendent this year. Ms. Harwood received her Bachelors' Degree from Lincoln University in Jefferson City. She received her Masters' Degree from William Woods University and her Specialists' Degree from the University of Missouri - Columbia. Ms. Harwood will be meeting with a variety of focus groups throughout the day today and touring our district and community. She will complete her day in Smithville with an interview with the Board of Education this evening. The public is invited to meet Ms. Harwood at 5:00 p.m. at the Smithville High School Performing Arts Center.

Please welcome Cristina Wright to our District today! She is one of the four finalists for superintendent in the Smithville School District. She is currently the superintendent in Licking, MO, where she has successfully led the district for the last five years. Cristina is originally from the Gladstone area and began her teaching career as a middle school English/Language Arts teacher in North Kansas City. She taught there for 13 years. She left North Kansas City to be a principal in a private school in Jefferson City and then became a principal in St. Elizabeth, MO before advancing to the superintendent's position in Licking. Ms. Wright received her Bachelors' Degree from the University of Missouri - Columbia. She received her Masters' Degree from Park University and her Specialists' Degree from William Woods, where she is in the process of completing her Doctorate in Education. Ms. Wright will be meeting with a variety of focus groups throughout the day today and touring our district and community. She will complete her day in Smithville with an interview with the Board of Education this evening. The public is invited to meet Ms. Wright at 5:00 p.m. at the Smithville High School Performing Arts Center.

Today, the SHS cadet teachers walked to the Mid Continent Public Library to learn about how every teacher can support student literacy. Cadets had great discussion about the ways picture books can be used every grade level and content area.
